How To Get The Most Out Of Your Member Jungle Photo Module

A picture is worth a thousand words. That might be a bit of a cliche, but it’s true. I could spend all day describing how the Uakari (a type of New World monkey) looks like your drunk uncle who fell asleep on the beach while sunbathing and has now woken up crispy as hell and has drunkenly put on your grandma’s old fur coat. No matter how much time I spend describing it, it will never be as good as just showing you this picture. 

 

  

 

For this reason, photos of your club are amazing for showcasing the fantastic activities your club organises, which is a key part of attracting new members.

When people see the exciting events your club hosts, they are more likely to want to get involved. This is also great for current members who can easily locate photos of themselves and their friends from past events, helping to add extra value to your club events. 

This is where the Member Jungle Photo Module comes in. It allows you to create simple, well-organised photo albums that make it easy for visitors and members to browse your club photos. You can also create multiple photo categories and tags to make it easy for people to find what they want in your photo gallery.

What Is the Photo Module at Member Jungle? 

The Photo Module allows you to display multiple organised photo albums for your members and visitors to your site to view. This can be an awesome way to showcase what happened at recent events and award ceremonies and to highlight the various advantages of being in your club. 

You can also sort all of these photos into categories and subfolders to make it easy for members to navigate to the images they want. For example, see the screenshot below from the Northern Rivers Bushwalkers Club. 
 

 

As you can see, the NRBC has divided its photos into multiple categories based on the type of events and the year they occurred. This makes it easier for members to find the images they are after and allows potential members to get a good understanding of the club. 

How To Set Up The Photo Module For Your Club

The first step to setting up your club’s Photo Module is to go to the Module tab in the backend of your website and select the Photos option. Then, select Categories from the left-hand menu, which will bring you to the page below. 

 

 

Here, you can see any existing categories you have, which ones are live, and create new ones. 

To create a new category, you just need to fill out the simple form on this screen.  

 

 

You will be able to enter the following fields: 

• Category name 
• Choose whether you want it to have a parent category or not
• Category description
• Category tags

The only mandatory field here is Category Name, but adding in others will allow your members to better use and understand your photo gallery. 

Now, you will have an empty image category ready for your images. Let’s discuss the two ways you can add images to your category. 

Image Library

You now have a nice new image category for your club photos. You can add images to any of your photo categories by going to the Image Library tab. 

In this tab, you will be able to add any of the following information about your new photo: 

• Image title
• Alt tag
• Image category 
• Order in category
• Image width
• Image description

 

The only mandatory fields here are the image title, image category, and, of course, the image upload itself.

 

 

Once you have activated this image, it will appear in your club’s Photo Module under your brand-new category. 

In case you were wondering, for this example, I uploaded an image of a Lowland Streaked Tenrec, a small mammal native to Madagascar that looks like a hedgehog had a baby with Pikachu. 

 

 

Quick fun fact about Tenrecs. Despite several subspecies of Tenrec looking remarkably like hedgehogs, they are not closely related. In fact, Tenrecs, like the one on the left, are much closer relatives to elephants than they are hedgehogs, the one on the right. Convergent evolution doing its thing once again. 

 

Multiple Image Upload 

The other way to add new images to your new photo category is to go to the Multiple Image Upload tab. There will be no prizes for guessing what this does. It allows you to upload multiple images at a time to a preselected image category. 

 

 

This will not give you all the options of creating image names, descriptions, and alt tags of the Image Library option. Still, it is good for uploading images to your site in bulk. 

To add details, like image names and alt tags, you can go back to your Image Library, select which category you want, and then edit all of the images you just uploaded. 

 

 

Finally, you can return to the front end of your club’s website, where all of your new images will be displayed in your new category. As seen below. 

 

That’s all you need to know about using the Member Jungle Photo Module. I know some people will be interested, so I will quickly mention which animals I included in my “Nature’s Mistakes” Photo Category. If you don’t care, that’s totally understandable; just skip down to the next heading. 

First of all, just because I called these animals nature’s mistakes doesn’t mean I don’t love them; I’m just saying I think evolution did these guys dirty. 

The animals I used photos of were: 

• The Star-Nosed Mole - Noses shouldn't look like zombies from “The Last Of Us.”
   
• The Lowland Streaked Tenrec - Pikachu with mange.
   
• The Barreleye Fish - I’ve never seen a fish that looks more like a depressed submarine. 
   
• The Red-Lipped Bat Fish - I’ve never seen a fish that looks more like an eight-times divorced woman who just started dating your grandfather. 
   
• The Platypus - I think we in Australia have grown a little accustomed to how weird platypuses are. They are duck-billed, beaver-tailed, egg-laying mammals who, unlike all other mammals, have no nipples, so they just sort of sweat out their milk for their young. They can navigate using electroreception, are venomous, and I could go on like this for some time. These things are wild.
