Our Sustainability Journey
BEYOND NET ZERO
Before we started Member Jungle, we undertook a study on how we could ensure that our net impact on the environment would be positive. We decided that from Day One of business, we would be beyond net zero when it comes to carbon usage.
A lot of companies have a ‘green option’ for offsetting carbon. We believe there shouldn’t be an option.
Not only are our business practices and products 100% carbon neutral, but any impact you might make as a customer of Member Jungle is carbon offset, at no additional cost to you.
POWERED BY THE SUN
Harnessing the power of the sun, we’ve invested in solar panels for our HQ in Newcastle, Australia, to give us carbon-free energy, 24-7. Over the last 12 months and in our different COVID working environment, we have generated 4.5 times more energy than we have used. In our normal working environment, we generate 10% more power than we use.
+ 1977 trees saved and counting (109.3MWh generated)
GREEN WEB HOSTING THAT DOESN’T COST THE EARTH
Did you know the IT industry is one of the biggest contributors to emissions? Every like, every click of the button online, requires energy use. You can rest easy when using Member Jungle products, as our site and your club’s site are completely powered by renewable energy through our partnership with Google Cloud Platform.
DRIVING A BETTER FUTURE
Member Jungle was one of the first companies to have an electric vehicle in the Hunter Region of NSW, if not the first. We've completed a whole-of-company vehicle replacement program. At Member Jungle HQ, we also have an electric vehicle charging station.
CHOOSING FOR THE PLANET
Every choice, every day affects our planet and our children’s future. We select partners and suppliers that make smarter and more friendly use of the Earth’s resources.
WE CLEAN WITH GREEN
We clean with non-toxic, environmentally friendly cleaning products wherever possible. We also use Zero Waste Co hand wash and Who Gives A Crap toilet paper that’s made from 100% recycled and environmentally friendly materials. While only a small action. Every action does make a difference.
PROTECTING BIODIVERSITY
Meet Loki the Quokka, Myrtle the Manning River Turtle, Dean the Tassie Devil through Devil’s Ark and koalas, Anwen and Lion Leo through the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital. Member Jungle sponsors these animals to help protect Australia's biodiversity. As we grow, we will be sponsoring an animal of each country we expand to.
SAVING TREES
DIGITAL MEMBERSHIP CARDS
We have created digital membership cards for our clients and have worked to completely reduce paper-based transactions such as membership renewals and forms. This has meant a huge reduction in short-term plastics in the community, as well as a significant reduction in paper forms and printing.
NO NEED FOR PRINTING
We reduce paper-based transactions for our clients and Member Jungle through smart programs on our app and sites, essentially eliminating all need for printing.
CONNECTED TO THE CLIMATE
SAVING ENERGY
Getting the lights! We have put in place strategies to reduce our energy consumption in our offices that include turning off any unrequired equipment and lighting. During COVID, we’ve seen more than a 90% reduction in our weekly electricity consumption.
LIVE ENERGY MONITORS
To keep track of our energy usage, we have live energy monitors on company dashboards and screensavers.
CONVERSATIONS CREATING CHANGE
Conversations and co-creations on sustainability are embedded into our daily and monthly business practices. This includes monthly company meetings on sustainability and our carbon footprint.
ENCOURAGING INDIVIDUAL ENDEAVOURS
All our staff have individual passions when it comes to sustainability and we all encourage each other. Staff are exploring biodynamic and regenerative farming, exhibitions about pristine wilderness, and fundraising through nature trail running.
RENEWABLE POWER
On the occasions where we have excess power requirements, such as cloudy days or during the night, we use PowerShop to supply us with renewable power.
WEATHER STATION & AIR QUALITY MONITORS
We are keen observers of our local environment and have placed weather stations and air quality monitors at some of our remote offices to monitor climate change effects locally.
